The Dover Demon

In the spring of 1977, multiple individuals across different areas of Massachusetts reported sightings of a mysterious creature with glowing eyes and long, spindly fingers. Remarkably, each witness described an identical being, even going so far as to produce similar sketches. But what exactly was this entity that seemed to be haunting the community?

While sightings of the creature, later dubbed the "Dover Demon," have dwindled over time, its initial reports drew comparisons to the so-called "Grey aliens" due to its large eyes, thin frame, and long fingers. However, key differences cast doubt on this theory. Unlike typical depictions of Grey aliens, the Dover Demon was reported to have glowing eyes, orange-colored skin, and an unusual gait—alternating between moving on all fours and standing on two legs. These distinctive features seem to rule out the possibility of a Grey alien encounter.

Interestingly, there was no reported UFO activity in the area at the time, and a review of UFO archives from that period yields no evidence of related incidents. This has led to a variety of theories about the Dover Demon’s true nature. Some speculate it may have been an elaborate hoax, an interdimensional being, or even a sickly Grey alien. Others propose more terrestrial explanations, such as the possibility that it was a baby moose, as suggested by some experts.

Skeptics also point to the creature’s glowing eyes, thin body, large head, and strange posture as characteristics that could be attributed to a common animal, such as a dog or a larger creature suffering from mange. Animals with certain illnesses can move slowly, occasionally rise on two legs, and produce an eerie glow when their eyes reflect light at the right angle.

While reports of the Dover Demon have ceased, and no conclusive evidence has surfaced in recent years, the mystery persists. Until more definitive proof comes to light, the Dover Demon remains an enigmatic figure, cloaked in years of retellings and unanswered questions.

An internet search of the Dover Demon shared a lot of similarities to the reddit story inspired creature called the Rake...because the story is limited to Reddit, many have discounted the tale, but this creature bares a striking resemblance to the Dover Demon. Now reports of the Rake are primarily focused in rural New York state, has the Dover Demon moved on, and taken on a new name in current folklore...👽
